The University of Illinois says that they have a system-wide record, for the number of students who are enrolled for the fall semester, including the 8th straight year of a record enrollment at its main campus in Champaign-Urbana. University officials made the announcement on Wednesday that their total enrollment at each of their 3 campuses grew by 2.7-percent, to nearly 85,600 students. The campus at Champaign-Urbana grew by 3.2-percent, to increase their student body to 49,339 students. The campus in Chicago grew by 3.7-percent to 31,683 students, while the Springfield campus enrollment fell by 7.7-percent to 4,575 students. The university says that the Campaign-Urbana campus has had their most in-state freshman in the last 10 years. University President Tim Killeen, says that work to improve affordability is helping with the enrollment growth. They have also said that keeping tuition for in-state freshmen froze for the 4th straight year, making U of I have more appeal than other universities.
