Both the Marion County and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Offices are alerting residents, that scammers have been calling with bogus messages. Both agencies have received numerous complaints from citizens, who have been receiving automated phone messages form someone claiming to be from the IRS and threatening that the residents will be arrested if they do not respond. Both agencies are assuring the public that these callers are not from the IRS and that the IRS does not do their business over the phone. If you have an issue with the IRS, they will send you a letter through the mail. If you receive any of these scam calls, where they are threatening to take you to jail unless you pay, just hang up the phone. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office advised that if you ever doubt any of the calls that you receive, just get in contact with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and they will let you know if it is legit. Their office can be reached at 618-548-21-41.
