The Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees met on Monday for a regular monthly meeting. At that meeting, they approved the college’s 2019 fiscal year budget. They announced that the $47-million budget is balanced, and provides new programs and initiatives that will help improve student with opportunities to achieve their educational goals. The college also will forgo a tuition increase for the 2019-20 academic year. The college’s 2020-21 academic calendar was also approved, with the Summer 2020 semester starting on June 8th, Fall semester on August 17th and the Spring 2021 semester starting on January 11th. In personnel matters, Alan Boerngen of Trenton was appointed as the new Associate Dean of Institutional Assessment, with his role at the college expanding and improving its assessment program. Terri Sanders of Centralia was appointed as the new Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Student Services. Also trustees approved a proposal to reclassify the position of Dean of Information Technology as Chief Information Officer. That position will replace the Dean of Information Technology position, with the recent retirement of current Dean Gina Schuetz in December of this year. The retirements of Dean Daum, as the Director of the College’s Truck Driver Training Program effective at the end of December and Maintenance Technician Jim Walter in September were both approved. Trustees approved in allocation of funds to the 26 student clubs to use for student activities and programs. Nominating petitions are also available for the 2 available seats on the KC Board of Trustees for the upcoming April 2019 election. Petitions can be picked up form the Office of the President at the main campus from now until December.
