A Mt. Vernon teenager was arrested in Jefferson County, shortly after an incident on Saturday, where he allegedly fired shots at a family member. According to police, they responded to the 1000 block of South 21st Street in Mt. Vernon, at around 1223pm, in regard to a report of a family member who was shot by another family member during a dispute. No one had reported any injuries from the altercation. Once officers arrived, the alleged offender, 19-year-old Elias Hernandez, had already left the scene. While officers were speaking to the alleged victim, they observed Hernandez in the area. Once the teen noticed officers, he fled on foot, and was able to escape. Probable cause was developed in order to arrest Hernandez and charge him with aggravated assault and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Then at around 521pm on Sunday, officers were conducting a felony traffic stop to a vehicle along the 14,000 block of Pump House Lane, where Hernandez was believed to be the driver. He was then arrested and charged with the aggravated assault and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Hernandez will now be kept at the Jefferson County Jail.
