A man from Mt. Vernon is sent to jail, after being arrested over the past weekend for weapons charges. 26-year-old Darius Gardet was arrested and questioned by officers on Saturday, after officers responded to the 900 block of Conger Street in Mt. Vernon. That was in regard to a call of a male subject armed with a handgun. Officers located a loaded handgun in the area and made contact with Gardet. Following an investigation, Gardet was believed to be the one armed with the gun, so he was taken into custody on aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. His bail was set at $20,000 and he was formally charged on Monday with a Class 4 felony for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. His 1st court appearance and his preliminary hearing was also set for October 23rd at the Jefferson County Court.
