The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office would like to assure to residents in the area that the subject of a weekend manhunt, is no longer in the area and that federal officials have strong evidence that he has left the state. According to a chief Deputy, Illinois State Police has confirmed that 36-year-old Anthony Amundson, who was last seen driving one of 3 vehicles operating as a caravan, which was transporting methamphetamine between Iowa and Missouri. Troopers attempted to have a traffic stop on Amundson’s vehicle in Woodlawn, but he bailed from the vehicle and fled on foot. Officials have since spent several days searching the area for Amundson, but he was never located. ISP returned to the area with their K-9 units, where they found evidence of Amundson, which they believe he tossed in the field as he fled. In the weeks leading up to this manhunt, the sheriff’s office received information of a suspicious vehicle with Iowa license plates, parked near the located where Amundson had bailed from his vehicle. Deputies responded and 2 individuals from Iowa were eventually found in the woods. They were then taken in for questioning, where they were ultimately released with charges pending from the Jefferson County State’s Attorney’s Office. There were 2 apparent associates of Amundson, where were likely in the woods looking for what he tossed while he fled, but that is not clear at this time for whose benefit they were searching. According to the Iowa Sex Offender Registry, Amundson is a registered offender. He was convicted back in 2002 for an assault with the intent to commit a sexual abuse.
