The 2018 General Election was yesterday at area precincts. In contested races in Clinton County, winning Regional Superintendent was Republican Ron Daniels, 72-percent to 28-percent. For County Board District 2, its Democrat Bryan Wessel and Republican Bradley Knolhoff winning over Henry Bergmann and Duane Nordik. County Board District 3, winning the 2 spots, its Democrat Debra Wesselmann and Republican Mike Kreke. The last contested race is for County Board District 5, with Republicans Bob Netemeyer and Rafael Him winning. Also for County Clerk, Vicky Albers the Republican beats out Tina Winkeler 68-percent to 31-percent of the voting. Running unopposed and winning last night includes Douglas Maue for County Sheriff, Denise Trame for County Treasurer and Larry Johnson and Nelson Heinzmann for County Board District 1. John Shimkus wins the US Representative 15th District spot by over 6,600 votes in Clinton County, and won his district by receiving 72-percent of the voting. Jason Plummer gets over 72-percent of the votes in Clinton County, to win 54th District Senator. Also Blaine Wilhour won the 107th Represenative District by just under 500 votes. In uncontested races for our area, Charlie Meier wins the 108th State Representative Position. In the state side, Illinois has a new governor, as Democratic candidate JB Pritzker beats out Rauner 2,356,991 votes to Rauners 1,716,331, for a victory of around 640,660 votes. Pritzker received 71.5-percent of his voting from Cook County, while only winning 8 counties in Illinois outside of the Chicago area. Rauner won every county in our area, including Clinton County with over 65-percent of the voting, and in Southern Illinois, except for Madison County, Jackson County and Alexander County. Winning Attorney General in Illinois was Democrat Kwame Raoul by receiving 54-percent of the voting. The 3 Democrats and incumbent candidates Jesse White, Michael Frerichs and Susana Mendoza, win their positions easily. White was voted in as Secretary of State once again with 70-percent of the voting, Frerichs 57-percent as Treasurer and Mendoza 60-percent for Comptroller.
