Newly elected governor JB Pritzker, say that voters trusted him to clean up the government in Illinois, end conflicts of interest and reform campaign finance laws. The Democrat spoke to the Associated Press last week, where he was fresh off of a victory on Tuesday against Republican Governor Bruce Rauner. He said that voters did not trust Rauner to get rid of government corruption and that Rauner routinely demonized Pritzker and powerful House Speaker Michael Madigan of Chicago, as corrupt dealmakers. Pritzker spend $171-million of his own money in order to help get elected. He said that he will take a comprehensive look at reforming campaign finance laws. That will include considering public financing, which was an idea that was floated by Senator Daniel Biss during the Democratic primary for governor. The newly elected governor will be inaugurated in January. He says that he will spend his 1st legislative session to work on a balanced budget. He will also be looking at gaining tax revenue from legalizing recreational marijuana.
