A man from Carbondale was sentenced to 30 months in prison and one year of mandatory supervised release, after being charged with unlawful use of weapons by a felon. The Jackson County State’s Attorney announced that 24-year-old Demarcus Jones, of Carbondale, pled guilty to the charge, which was a Class 3 felony. Carbondale police allegedly pulled a vehicle over, with Jones as a passenger, along the 700 block of South Lewis Lane on August 25th, during the early morning hours, when the K-9 unit alerted the presence of narcotics. A female driver and 4 other male occupants were then detained, pending an investigation. A search of the vehicle then revealed 3 loaded handguns and narcotics. Jones also had a previous felony conviction for a burglary case.
