The Washington County Board met on Tuesday for a regular monthly meeting.  During that meeting, newly hired county engineer Kiefer Heimann gave his report from the highway department.  The Oakdale bridge bid was approved for $316,000, which was a little less then what the department was expecting.  Also the Plum Hill bridge project is expected to go through the bid process here in the near future.  So far this year, the county has used up ½ of their salt from snow and ice, but the county is still in good shape to finish up the winter season.  If more snow and ice comes before the March meeting and the county runs out of salt, orders are already in place for an emergency.  Also the county expects to have all 5 of their snow plows good to go, since two of them have been out of commission.  The county board approved an EMA Mutual Aid Box Alarm System Agreement, which is exactly like what the ambulance service has.  Regional Superintendent Ron Daniels gave his quarterly report for the regional office of education #13, which covers Clinton-Jefferson-Marion and Washington counties.  Truancy cases were up by around 100 for the 4-county area.  Also his department has around $90,000 in their bank, compared to only $5,000 in 2015.  The board approved the county electric renewal quote for .049-centers per kilowatt from Affordable Gas and Electric.  AFG was one of 4 gas and electric providers that had a bid to the county, who was the lowest bid.  The contract was for 3-years, starting on July 2020 and going through 2023.  In personnel action, the board approved 2 new appointments to the 9-11 board, including sheriff Len Campbell and Addieville Fire chief Ryan Wiedwelt.  Four re-appointments to the Methodist North Prairie Cemetery board were approved, which included James Wacker, John Luessenehide, Ron Luessenheide and David Hake.  There was also a discussion at the meeting to amend one of the county ordinances to allow two county jobs to some individuals, if that problem would ensue, however, board members elected to table that action and send it back to the Legislative committee for re-evaluation.  The next county board meeting is set for Tuesday, March 12th.
