The Washington County Board met on Tuesday for a regular monthly meeting. At that meeting, 3 highway department resolutions were approved. Pilot Knob Road District had 2 projects approved, including a culvert replacement at $5,150 along Perry County Line Road and a steel culvert replacement at $25,132 at Lincoln Road. Also HMG Engineering was approved for the McKinley Bridge Construction project in Oakdale, for a cost of around $39,000. Board members approved a preliminary engineering agreement for a future project in 2022 along County Highway 10 between Oakdale and Elkton, for a cost of $97,000. County Clerk and Recorder Nancy Heseman announced that the county is preparing for the April 2nd election, which will involve mostly local positions in cities, villages and schools. 12 county inmates and 12 federal incomes were announced inside the county prison, with the construction continuing to the west of the jail. There are 2 houses that are being demolished to the west. Judge Emge spoke in front of the board for several minutes, discussing a new measure that was passed in the state and on the Southern Illinois Substance Abuse Alliance between Washington County and Randolph County. The new measure states that anyone who is under the poverty line that they created would have a waive on assessments and fees set by the court, forcing the court 100s of 1000s of extra funds. July 1st will begin this new law for Illinois courts. Also May 12th to the 18th was declared as National prevention Week in Washington County, which is indented of educating youth on underage alcohol and drug use. Two re-appointments were approved on Tuesday. Brian Fletcher was approved to be re-appointed to the Southwestern Illinois Law Enforcement and Earl Schnitker was approved as a re-appointment to the Washington County Farmland Assessment. Lastly members stated that the tube tv and computer monitor recycling event at the Nashville Community Center was a success, with 2 tractor trailers being filled up with around 28,000 pounds of recyclable materials. The next recycling event of tube tvs and computer monitors will be sometime in June. The next board meeting for Washington County will be on Tuesday, April 9th.
