The man responsible for a string of robberies in the Centralia area has been sentenced to prison time, after pleading guilty to the charges. 20-year-old Dazhai Brumfield was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison, or 6 and ½ years, for his role in those violent robberies in Centralia back in 2017. Brumfield and his co-defendant, 31-year-old Ernestine Fields, were charged with the crime by the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois. Evidence was presented in court, that showed that Brumfield has participated in 6 armed robberies, starting on September 2017 and ending with his arrest in December 2017. The victims in the case included Huck’s Food Store, Fuel-Vend, Domino’s Pizza, Hunan House and Lincoln Liquor. In 3 of those robberies, business employees were threatened at gunpoint. As part of his sentence, Brumfield will repay $2,177 in restitution to the victim businesses. He must also serve 3 years of mandatory supervised release.
