The Illinois State Fire Marshal has been called in, in order to investigate a structure fire that occurred late on Tuesday night in Mt. Vernon.  Firefighters from Mt. Vernon responded to a call from a neighbor, reporting that the fire started at around 1130pm on Tuesday, at 12th and Wescott Streets.  Once they arrived, firefighters were able to determine that the flames were coming from the home’s attic.  They then knocked down the fire, before it spread to the living area of the home.  The home did suffer substantial heat and smoke damage from the fire.  Additional help was called in, which included the Jefferson Fire Protection District and the Woodlawn and Waltonville fire protection districts.  No injuries were reported and all the occupants were out of the home.
