UPDATE: CENTRALIA — Marion County Coroner Troy Cannon has identified a 54-year-old Centralia woman as the person struck and killed early Thursday morning near North Locust and Nolman streets in Centralia.

Tracey L. Cook was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name had been withheld while her family was notified. Coroner Cannon says an autopsy is scheduled for Friday in Urbana to gather additional evidence on the incident.

A Centralia police officer noticed a shoe in the roadway before finding Cook’s body. Two surveillance cameras from the area captured traffic footage that may help police identify the driver of the vehicle involved as well as piece together what led to the tragic incident.

CPD is expected to release additional information later Thursday.

CENTRALIA — Surveillance video is helping Centralia police possibly identify the driver of a vehicle that fatally struck a pedestrian early Thursday morning in downtown Centralia.

According to police, the incident occurred around 1:30 Thursday morning on North Locust Street just north of Noleman.

A Centralia police officer first saw a shoe in the roadway before discovering the woman’s body. The Marion County Coroner’s Office declared her dead at the scene. Her identity is being withheld pending the notification of her family.

Two surveillance cameras from that area reportedly captured information that may identify the driver of the vehicle. More details on this incident are expected Thursday afternoon.
