FRANKLIN COUNTY — Things are moving quickly in the Franklin County bank robbery case against a 60-year-old Salem man.

A defense motion to continue the jury trial was withdrawn Thursday and defendant Earl Morlan instead asked to confirm the case for trial.

Morlan was arrested in February for the alleged armed robbery of a Ziegler bank and has remained in the Franklin County Jail since that time with bond set at $250,000.

He’s charged with Class X felony armed robbery with a firearm and Class 1 felony aggravated armed robbery indicating a firearm.

The case is now scheduled for a final pretrial hearing Friday, with jury selection scheduled to begin Tuesday morning.
