Earleen (Mezo) Apgar, 86, of Mattoon, Illinois, passed away at 3:05 am May 4, 2023 at Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon. She was born May 23, 1936 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Earl and Mary Ellen (Boster) Mezo. Earleen married Cecil E.Apgar on November 7, 1954. They were blessed with 56 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on December 11, 2010.

Earleen is survived by her children; Cheryl D. Foltz and husband, James, Steven Apgar, and Michele Apgar, grandchildren; Cherimy D. Foreman and husband, Curtis, Nathan E. Foltz and wife, Chelsey, Kassidy (Kass) Apgar and fiance, Alex McKinney, Kadence (Kadi) Apgar, and Donny Peyton and fiance, Rikki Kirkpatrick, great-grandchildren, Avia N. Foltz, Amelia N. Foltz, Skylynn R. Foreman, Knox Peyton and Brynlee R. Foreman, and sister; Janice F. Mezo.

In addition to her loving husband, Cecil, and her parents, Earl and Mary Ellen Mezo, Earleen was preceded in death by her brother Duane Mezo and granddaughter, Amanda Peyton.

Earleen was a graduate of Mount Vernon Township High School and for many years worked as a Teacher’s Aide and a Telephone Operator. Earleen was a member of West Long Prairie Christian Church. She was a loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Earleen loved spending time with her family and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Visitation will be held Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Graveside Service will be held Friday, May 12, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Bethel Cemetery in Mount Vernon with  officiating. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Earleen’s honor to her daughter, Cheryl Foreman.
