JACKSON COUNTY — A Murphysboro woman has been sentenced to 50 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for first-degree murder after pleading guilty last year to murdering her ex-husband in 2022.

Jackson County State’s Attorney Joseph Cervantez announced Wednesday that a sentencing hearing was held for 41-year-old Alexis N. Stallman.

The court ultimately sentenced her to a total of 50 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, where she will serve 100 percent of the sentence.

On July 20, 2022, Alexis N. Stallman was taken into custody and charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated domestic battery in the death of her ex-husband Edward A. Stallman.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded around 10:50 a.m. that day to reports of a crash at an Illinois Department of Transportation work zone located at the intersection of Highway 127 and Ava Road in Murphysboro.

Edward A. Stallman was rushed to the emergency room but appeared to have sustained a “puncture wound to his chest” that was not consistent with a vehicular crash injury. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the facility.

Witnesses revealed that Alexis N. Stallman came to the IDOT work site and reportedly became engaged in a verbal altercation with her ex-husband just prior to the crash.

Alexis N. Stallman’s vehicle was still on the scene when detectives discovered a bloodied kitchen knife in her purse on the front passenger floorboard.

Cervantez explained that DNA analysis revealed that the blood was that of her ex-husband.
