MARION COUNTY — Centralia police have made an arrest in connection with an incident the evening of November 3, 2023 that resulted in shots being fired into a vehicle.

According to Centralia Police Lieutenant Joe Rizzo, 21-year-old Tyauna Damron was a person of interest in the case where CPD had initially received a call of gunshots in the area of Third and Perrine Streets.

A second call was received reporting a woman firing a shot then waving a gun around and firing at a passing pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup truck reportedly located the suspect vehicle later but no one was inside.

A bullet hole was reportedly found in the side of the truck and Illinois Crime Scene Investigators later found a bullet casing in the truck.

Lt. Rizzo says witnesses in the area identified Damron as the shooter in the case but she wasn’t taken into custody until Wednesday following a traffic stop.

She was booked into the Marion County Jail and on Friday she was formally charged with Class 1 felony aggravated discharge of a firearm into an occupied vehicle, and Class 3 felony aggravated assault with the discharge of a firearm.

Judge Mark Stedelin denied the prosecution’s petition to detain Damron until trial, and ordered her released under special conditions. She’s scheduled to next appear in court March 12, for a preliminary hearing.
