WAYNE COUNTY — The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the attempted theft of an ATM in Wayne City early Wednesday morning.

According to the sheriff’s office, shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday, deputies were dispatched to a report of a truck that had knocked over the ATM at the FNB Community Bank in Wayne City and that multiple individuals appeared to be trying to get the money out of the machine.

Responding deputies quickly arrived on scene and began pursuing the suspects, but lost sight of them after a foot pursuit.

Moments later an officer with the Wayne City Police Department located a suspicious vehicle and after attempting to stop the vehicle a pursuit ensued.

The suspect vehicle was pursued until law enforcement lost sight. Attempts by other responding officers to locate the suspect vehicle again were unsuccessful.
