ZEIGLER, Ill. — Firefighters from Zeigler and several other area fire departments responded to a fire that involved three homes in the 600 block of Maple Street in Zeigler Thursday night.

According to the Zeigler Fire Department, firefighters responded around 6:40 p.m. to a report of a home on fire. The caller reported that a grass fire had spread to the rear of the home. The home was already fully engulfed and a second home was involved. Firefighters requested help due to the involvement with the home. A third home did become involved. Firefighters also requested help for water supply.

Three homes suffered major damage with two obtaining heat and smoke damage. No injuries were reported. One firefighter was treated for fatigue at the scene.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal is investigating.

Multiple departments/agencies responded and/or assisted with the incident. Responding agencies included Royalton Fire (automatic aid), West Frankfort Fire, Christopher Fire, Hurst Fire, Benton Fire, Coello Fire, Valier Fire, Sesser Fire, Herrin Fire, Williamson County Fire, Buckner Fire, Ewing Northern Fire, West Franklin County Central Dispatch, Zeigler Police Department, and AMR EMS.
