WAYNE COUNTY — A 51-year-old Fairfield man was arrested early Monday morning when Wayne County Sheriff’s deputies reportedly interrupted him in the process of burglarizing a Fairfield restaurant.

According to the sheriff’s office, just before 4 a.m. Monday, deputies responded to a call about a burglary in progress at New World Chinese Restaurant in Fairfield.

Upon arrival, Wayne County Deputies observed the outer main door had been forced open. Deputies entered the building and began clearing it for suspects.

During the search deputies reportedly spotted a man, now identified as John E. Luther, attempting to flee out of the rear door of the restaurant.

Deputies ultimately took Luther into custody. He as reportedly had a flashlight, and screwdriver in his hands, a pry bar was found on the floor in front of the cash register, a clown mask was found on the ground near the rear exit, a backpack with another hammer was found near the north side of the restaurant, a bicycle was found along the north side of the restaurant, and one fortune cookie was found in the Luther’s pocket.

He was taken to the Wayne County Jail on charges of burglary and possession of burglary tools.
