MOUNT VERNON — Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse has released the name of the 62-year-old man killed Tuesday when he was struck by a truck in his alleyway following a dispute with another man.

According to Coroner Hayse, Thomas Taylor died Tuesday from major internal damage stemming from blunt force trauma.

Mt. Vernon Police Chief Trent Page says 45-year-old Robert A. Lewis has been arrested in connection with Taylor’s death. An investigation by MVPD reportedly shows Taylor was working on a trailer Tuesday in the alley about a block south from the 2900 block of Veterans Memorial Drive.

Around 4:30 that afternoon, Lewis was reportedly driving west through the alley when he and Taylor became embroiled in a dispute. The men then apparently began striking each other’s vehicles with objects and causing damage.

Page says when Lewis left the scene he allegedly struck Taylor with his pickup truck and eventually drove to the police department.

Taylor was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment but was later pronounced dead.

After Lewis was taken into custody he was taken to an area hospital for blood and urine to be collected for toxicology tests. He was then booked into the Jefferson County Jail on a charge of reckless homicide.
