MARION COUNTY — Motorists are reminded to follow detours when traveling the Illinois Route 161 extension in Marion County.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the bridge over Skillet Fork Creek remains closed. Work began on the bridge on Tuesday. A structural plate that had earlier been installed on a portion of the bridge experiencing concrete failure has been removed, and new concrete has been poured.

The bridge will be reopened once that concrete is cured sometime Monday.

Motorists are urged to follow the 15-ton weight limit over the bridge to avoid its failure and complete closure.
