SALEM — A Dallas, Texas man and his little dog are heading back home after a Monday car crash on Interstate 57 near Salem resulted in the dog fleeing the scene of the crash.

An extensive online effort was launched to find the French Bulldog Gotti, with people posting updated sightings of the frightened pup.

Gotti’s human stayed in the Salem area while following up on sightings of his fur baby. The pup was finally located on Wednesday and taken to Douglas Veterinary Clinic for an exam.  Aside from some road rash suffered in the crash, Gotti was found to be OK and was cleared to return home.

Salem Animal Control, who largely led the online efforts to find Gotti, said it truly did take a village to find the Lone Star doggie.
