CENTRAL CITY —

A 22-year-old Pinckneyville woman facing murder charges in Perry County was reportedly arrested Tuesday night in Central City for alleged illegal possession of a firearm.

Sophia Kelly was arrested for alleged possession of a firearm and ammunition without a FOID card and unlawful use of weapons.

She’s charged in Perry County with three counts of first-degree murder in connection with the June 2022 death of her three-month-old infant son. The infant’s father, Logan Hutchings, was found not guilty last month accusing him of the same charges. He was acquitted three days into a bench trial on the charges. A prosecution motion to dismiss the charges in Kelly’s case is pending a motion hearing scheduled for May 1st in Perry County Court.

On Tuesday night, Kelly was a passenger in a car that reportedly ran a stop sign at North Elm and Charlotte in Central City, which resulted in a traffic stop.

The vehicle’s driver, 25-year-old Jake Gillmore, of Mt. Vernon, was arrested for alleged possession of a firearm and ammunition without a FOID card, possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of a hypodermic needle, and possession of a controlled substance.

A second passenger, 23-year-old Robert Gott of Centralia, was arrested for possession of a firearm and ammunition without a FOID card, possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of a hypodermic needle, and possession of a controlled substance.

All three were transported to the Marion County Jail.
