SALEM, IL — An Iuka woman was involved in a traffic crash and taken to the Salem Township Hospital Wednesday morning where she was pronounced dead.

55-year-old Sherri Easley was eastbound on Main Street near the exit ramp of Westbound I-57 in Salem when she crossed into the westbound lane. Easley’s car struck the rear tire on a vehicle driven by 40-year-old Michael Locker of Strasberg, who was not hurt. Easley’s car would continue into the roadside ditch before coming to a stop.

Reports say Easley had been ill and the crash is believed to be medically related. Toxicology tests were taken to try and help confirm the cause of death.
