Delores Marie (Dill) Rector, 76, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 10:09 pm June 6, 2025. She was born June 28, 1948 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma to Raymond R. Dill and Dorothy T. (Mayberry) Dill.
In 1966, she graduated from McLeansboro Township High School. She attended Gradwohl School of Laboratory Technique in Saint Louis, Missouri, Class of 1968. After graduation, Delores completed her internship at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis, Illinois. She was later employed as a Registered Medical Technologist at Good Samaritan Hospital, Mount Vernon, Illinois. Delores retired from Crossroads Community Hospital in 2010 as a laboratory technician and microbiologist.
Delores married Harold W. Rector on September 12, 1969 in McLeansboro, Illinois. They were married for almost 40 years, until his passing in 2009.
Delores is survived by her daughters, Lori (Craig) Borger of Phoenix, Arizona and Dodi (Andrew) Sink of Mount Vernon; three grandchildren, Shaylah Rector of Fairfield, Illinois, Abby Sink of Evansville, Indiana, and Jacob Sink of Mount Vernon; and one great-granddaughter, Mya Rector of Fairfield.
She was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church.
Delores was kind, generous, and loyal to her friends and family. She was always the sharpest in the room. Delores loved learning, crafting, and creating something new every day–passing that curiosity down to the generations that followed. Her family regarded her as a guiding light, a pillar of strength, and a true role model for what a matriarch should be.
Delores loved traveling, capturing the wonders of the world through photography. She considered her greatest adventure to be raising a family and the memories they made together.
A Visitation will be held Friday, June 27, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Graveside Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 11:00 am at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Woodlawn, IL. Inurnment will follow.
