Verdon Samuel Lane Jr., 74, of Bluford, IL passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 10, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. He was born on November 6, 1950 to Verdon Samuel “Rabbit” Lane Sr. & Frieda (Piercy) Lane of Opdyke, IL. He worked for General Tire/Continental Tire North America in Mt. Vernon, IL for 34 years. He was a member of the East Hickory Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Bluford, IL.
He was known as Junior to most, and many colorful names to others. He was a friend to many. Junior enjoyed the Springtime season, the outdoors, farming, hunting, fishing, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, playing pinochle, and sharing stories of adventures and of days past. While he deemed himself as a “pretty good” card player, he was an exceptional friend, son, brother, and father.
He will be missed greatly and wouldn’t mind folks sharing stories of him over a piece of banana cream pie.
Junior is survived by his mother Freida and siblings Connie, Charles, and Joyce; sons Jason and Jacob, along with many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Verdon Samuel “Rabbit” Lane Sr.
Funeral services for Verdon Samuel Lane Jr. will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, IL with Pastor Randy Hayes officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, and will be accepted at Young Funeral Home.
