Marvin Ray Skidmore, age 86, of Bonnie Illinois, passed on to his Heavenly home on September 20, 2025 at 8:15 pm, surrounded by his beloved family. He is the son of the late Floyd Lambert Skidmore and Sybil Faye (Jones) Skidmore, born in Bonnie on October 5, 1938. Marvin married his soulmate, Phyllis Marie (Payne) Skidmore on August 21, 1971, after knowing her for just two weeks. They celebrated 54 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, Phyllis, Marvin is survived by his brother, Donnie (Burline) Skidmore of Opdyke; sister, Glenda (Calvin) Smith of Waco, Texas; his children, Jeff (Shelby) Skidmore of Mount Vernon, Greg (Cindy) Skidmore of Mount Vernon, Joanna (Dan) Keene of High Ridge, Missouri, Becky Skidmore of Myrtle Mississippi, Andrew (Johna) Skidmore of Bluford, and Tim (Katie) Skidmore of Bonnie; 15 grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Marvin is preceded in death by his brother, Morris Lee Skidmore; and son, Jonathon Ray Skidmore.
Marvin graduated Waltonville High School in 1956 and attended God’s Bible School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Marvin was a loyal member and trustee at the Mount Vernon Baptist Temple. Marvin loved Jesus, he was faithful to the Lord, and kept himself in The Word. Marvin, loved to be out on the lake, crappie fishing, with his family & friends. Marvin, enjoyed planting a large, extravagant vegetable garden in the summer, that would feed all his family and then some. He also enjoyed going to his grandsons ball games, whether it be basketball or baseball. Marvin loved his family, he loved us all very well, he will be dearly missed.
A Visitation will be held Friday, September 26, 2025 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Mount Vernon Baptist Temple in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 pm with Pastor Tim Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow at South Hickory Hill Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
