Mary Alice Ledbetter, 82, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 12:53 am October 14, 2025 at her residence in Mount Vernon. She was born July 10, 1943 in Pinckneyville, Illinois to the late Lester and Anna Mae (Garner) Robison. Mary married John Willard Ledbetter on January 28, 1961 in Sparta, Illinois. He preceded her in death on November 19, 2018.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Cathy Barnes and husband, Scott of Woodlawn, Illinois; sons, Jeffrey Ledbetter of Charleston, Illinois and Michael Ledbetter and wife, Sharilyn of Matthews, North Carolina; grandchildren, Tim Barnes and wife, Stacey, Alicia (Barnes) Elliston and husband, Mark, Christy (Barnes) Ross and husband, Bryant, Jeffrey Ledbetter, Jr., Jessy Ledbetter, Molly Ledbetter, Mallory Ledbetter, Evan Ledbetter, and Graeson Ledbetter; several great-grandchildren, brothers, James Robison, Lester Robison, Jr. and wife, Carolyn, and Dennis Robison and wife, Billie; sisters, Linda Williams, Brenda Owens, and Sheryl Schlimme and husband, Bill; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Mary was preceded in death by son, John “J.W.” Ledbetter, Jr.; great-grandson, Harvey Ross; and siblings, Charles Robinson, Stanley “Danny” Robison, Johnnie Robison, Jean Anne Drake, and Donna Robison.

Mary was a member of the Deaconess Crossroads Auxiliary and Stitchers. She enjoyed cooking and always gave out Christmas cookies and candy during the holiday season. Alongside her husband, Mary taught and loved line dancing. She always made us laugh with her old sayings, and taught us “It is what it is” – be good and take life for what it is. Mary will be remembered as a devoted mother, treasured grandmother, loving great-grandmother, dear sister, and friend to many.

A Visitation will be held Friday, October 17, 2025 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am with Mr. Jerry Wilson officiating. A Graveside Service will follow Friday, October 17 at 1:00 pm at Caledonia Cemetery in Sparta, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Mary’s honor to the Coffin Lowry Syndrome Foundation.
