Freida Mae (Piercy) Lane, 96, of Opdyke, IL passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL.  Freida was born on March 30, 1929 to Charles & Fern (Steele) Piercy.  On April 5, 1947 she married Verdon Samuel “Rabbit” Lane, who preceded her in death on December 29, 2017.

Freida was an active member of the East Hickory Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Bluford, IL who served as the church pianist and volunteer for a variety of the Church’s needs.  She attended East Hickory Hill Missionary Baptist Church since 1959.  She was a former member of the Red Hats, and she was a homemaker.

Freida enjoyed quilting, playing Pinochle, and going camping with her husband Rabbit.  She also enjoyed cooking, and she was known for making delicious coconut crème pies.  She loved God, her church, and her church family.  Her greatest love in life was her family.  She was very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Freida is survived by a son Charles Lane of Columbia, TN; 2 daughters: Connie (Chris) Draper of Wayne City, IL and Joyce (Wayne) Hails of Bluford, IL; 10 grandchildren: Christy (Kendall) Meritt, Lori (Neil) McKinney, Mike (Regina) Draper, Kirk (Kamla) Hails, Jason Lane, Corey (Whitney) Owens, Marisa (Steven) Sanders, Jacob Lane, Preston (Hannah) Lane, and Casey (Teresa) Hails; 16 great-grandchildren: Aubrey Lee (Denise) Jones, Garrett Jones, Alyssa (Caleb) Willman, Klayton Draper, Jeremy Meritt, Cord (Halle) Hails, Kalyn Meritt, Kyle Hails, Kloe Draper, Weston Hails, Alexis Sanders, Laney Hails, Christian Sanders, Shyloh Hails, Liam Lane, Tucker Hails, and Amelia Lane; 2 great-great grandchildren: Charlotte Willman and Silas Willman, and a brother-in-law Sam Lane.

She was preceded in death by her parents Charles & Fern Piercy, her husband Verdon Samuel “Rabbit” Lane, a son Verdon Samuel Lane Jr., a great-granddaughter Mahalia Verdawn Jones, a brother Dwight Piercy, and 6 sisters: Velma England, Reba Yearwood, Teresa Mayo, and Evelyn Goddard, and infant sisters Shirley Ann Piercy and Gladys Jewel Piercy.

Funeral services for Freida Mae (Piercy) Lane will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at the East Hickory Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Bluford, IL with Pastor Ronnie Mick officiating.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church.  Interment will follow the funeral service at East Hickory Hill Cemetery in Bluford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the East Hickory Hill Missionary Baptist Church, or to the East Hickory Hill Cemetery and will be accepted at the church or at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, which is assisting the family with arrangements.
