
Robert “Bob” Haney, 79, of Salem, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Salem Township Hospital.
Born December 9, 1946, in Salem, Illinois, Bob was the son of Aaron and Julia (Connelly) Haney. He united in marriage with Linda (Bowen) on March 16, 1968. They shared 56 wonderful years together before her passing on September 10, 2024.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Ronda Plumb and her husband Daniel of Mt. Vernon, and Lara Morris and her husband Thomas of Salem; his son, John Haney and fiancée Amy Webb of Salem; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his devoted wife, Linda; and his brother, Richard Haney.
Bob dedicated much of his life to education, serving as both a teacher and administrator. He was widely known for his memorable “Haney’s Rules for Four Square,” which left a lasting impression on generations of students. Music was also central to his life. For more than 20 years, he joyfully sang gospel music alongside his family as a member of “The Haneys.”
He was an active member of Evergreen Christian Church in Salem and deeply involved in the community. Bob belonged to the Salem Country Club, served as past President of the Salem Tourism Board, served on the Salem Academic Foundation Board, and was a member of the Salem Elks.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem, with Shannon Bopp officiating. Interment will follow at East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
