The Board of Trustees heard a report on future plans for the Fine and Performing Arts Programs at the College. Since their inception, the fine and performing arts programs at KC continues to grow with increased opportunities for students and the community. Overall, the fine and performing arts programs have seen considerable growth over the past decade. Music credit hour enrollments have increased from FY 2001 with 661 credit hours to 1523 credit hours in FY 2013. Theatre credit hour enrollments have increased from 150 credit hours in FY 2002 to 252 credit hours in FY 2013. Finally, visual arts credit hours have increased in FY 2001 from 880 credit hours to 1182 credit hours in FY 2013. The music department is currently working with the University of Evansville, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Eastern Illinois University, and VanderCook College of Music In Chicago to offer articulation agreements at each of these universities where students will be accepted as juniors once they leave Kaskaskia College. With the expansion of each of the fine arts programs comes the need for expanded facilities. With the input from each of the fine arts faculty, Professor Jourdan has developed a plan to expand the current facilities to include new classrooms, art studios, rehearsal spaces, piano lab and a recording studio. These new facilities will allow the fine arts programs to continue to grow and ensure that Kaskaskia College continues to attract quality fine arts students. The construction of this new building will allow Kaskaskia College to expand its current offerings to include things such as a musical. Plans are also underway to expand the music degree offerings at Kaskaskia College to include degrees in Music Therapy, Recording Technology, and eventually Music Theater. The first steps have been taken towards creating certificate programs in Live Sound, and Recording Technology. The Theatre Program is also looking forward to adding more courses that can transfer to other universities. The Art Program continues to look forward to the possibility of a new studio and classroom space. This new space will allow for growth in the three-dimensional art areas as well as provide more space for drawing and painting courses. They also learned that Kaskaskia College’s Adult Education and Nursing Program have partnered to design a program that will provide adult education students, interested in employment in the healthcare industry, the opportunity to earn a career and technical certificate as a Nurse Assistant while pursuing their GED Credentials. Kaskaskia College will launch its I-BEST Program, CNA-Plus, in July. The first cohort of students will begin classes on July 8, 2014. In personnel action, the Board approved the hiring of Jennings Carter of Greenville as the new Maintenance Specialist. The Board approved a resolution for the purchase of Cosmetology nail kits and program kits and Paramedicine Program simulation manikins and approved a resolution for the College to enter into a 5-year support agreement with CTS Technology Solutions to upgrade the telephone system.
