The Illinois Department of Transportation has been doing plenty of work on Route 127, preparing it for pavement, but there is a project at the railroad tracks on the north end of town that isn’t because of that project.  They report that Route 127 will be closed at the tracks by the grain elevators on Tuesday, July 1st from 7 AM until it is reopened on Thursday, July 3rd between noon and 3 PM.  Traffic will be detoured on city streets west of the crossings.  This is due to work being done to the railroad tracks by Evansville Western Railroad to upgrade the crossing.  For those going north, the marked detour will be to the west on 2nd Street then onto Kaskaskia Street and then east on Railroad Street.  For those going south, the marked detour will be west onto Huegely Street, south on Kaskaskia Street and back east on 3rd Street to alleviate traffic and turning in front of on-coming vehicles.  Watch for workers in the area, as well as for other motorists as there will be delays.
