Kaskaskia College is moving forward on plans for the College’s new education center to be located on Route 127 and Exchange Avenue in Nashville. Recently, the project was bid and the low bid came in over budget, so the project will be re-bid at a later date. Meanwhile, the fund raising campaign is continuing with cash and pledges increasing daily for the project. When the College moves forward on the bidding process, it will be accepting bids from all interested general contractors, both union and non-union. As a governmental body and under Illinois law, KC must accept the lowest bidder on the contract, unless there are specific and detailed reasons to not accept low bid. Under the Illinois Department of Labor’s Prevailing Wage Act, the awarded general contractor must pay the prevailing hourly wage rate determined by the Illinois Department of Labor for the county where the contract is executed and the craft or type of worker needed to execute the contract. The new and expanded Kaskaskia College Nashville Education Center will provide additional classroom space and Allied Health and Science laboratories, along with computer classrooms and a Distance Learning classroom. The new building will also have an open computer lab for community, as well as student use, and three Business Incubator offices that will house three small business startups, with technology and administrative help for prospective entrepreneurs.
