The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has released the Illinois Landfill Projections of Disposal Capacity Report for calendar year 2013. This is the 27th annual report, which includes data regarding the expected disposal capacity available for municipal waste at Illinois landfills as of January 1, 2014. During calendar year 2013, 42 landfills reported receiving over 45 million gate cubic yards of waste and reported more than 947 million gate cubic yards of combined remaining capacity as of January 1, 2014. Based on 2013 disposal rates, the current remaining landfill life expectancy in Illinois is 21 years. Five landfills in Region 7, which includes the Perry Ridge Landfill, located near DuQuoin, is used by Nashville for waste disposal, reported capacity in 2013. Those facilities reported receiving a combined total of 1,719,220 gate cubic yards of municipal waste during 2013, and has 86,231,907 gate cubic yards of capacity available on January 1, 2014. A total of 50 years of capacity remain for Region 7 at current disposal rates. Perry Ridge Landfill still has the ability to take in 14,972,008 tons of waste, with an expected lifespan of another 74 years. Last year it accepted 201,395 cubic yards or 61,029 tons of debris. Nashville pays $28.15 per ton for dumping.
