The Illinois State Police has a new forensics laboratory to help solve crimes.  The Metro-East Forensic Science Laboratory opened Tuesday in Belleville, and will provide what officials call state-of-the-art equipment.  State Police say the almost $42 million lab will be used to help police agencies throughout the region with everything from firearms to DNA testing.  The 64,000-square-foot lab was funded through the state’s capital construction program.  It replaces a much smaller lab in Fairview Heights.  It was built on land purchased in 2007 from Lindenwood University.
