The Nashville High School Board of Education met last night and they received the District Audit Report from Lisa Fuehne of Fuehne & Fuehne. She reported that it was good and there was nothing that needed to be addressed as a problem.  She added that the school’s estimated financial profile score was a perfect 4.0 for the 6th year in a row, which is something not many schools can claim.  The Education Fund was a negative of nearly $92,000 and state aid was down $160,000, so NCHS did a good job staying out of financial trouble.  She also reported that it cost $10,694 per student in operating expenses, but that was down $756 from the previous year.  It was noted that for Fiscal Year 2014, attendance was up nearly 8 percent.  The Board approved the audit.  Superintendent Wendy Davis later reported that the enrollment for this year is down, as the incoming freshman class is smaller than the recently graduated senior class.  There are 389 students now, but actually 408 when counting the Hoyleton students.  In other financial news, the school will investigate a bond sale for the removal of asbestos flooring in all the hallways, the cafeteria, the math classrooms, a section of the special education room and the classrooms between the main office and the north gym.  The project is not to exceed $850,000 and they will need a Health Life Safety Amendment.  During the meeting, they approved of going with First Mid State with a fee of 0.35 percent for what is expected to be a private sale.  Davis reported that next week is Homecoming Week with the theme of “Let The Games Begin” and will have the football game against Carterville on Friday night and the dance on Saturday night.  The end of the 1st quarter is October 10th.  Work has been finished on maintenance work from a grant that included the concession stand, the new P.E. lockers and a new HVAC unit for the electronics room.  Work from a second maintenance grant will begin on 8 HVAC units to be installed, as well as other roofing work.  This is part of a Health Life Safety project.  It won’t be long before the Auditorium is finished.  It is empty now and is being painted and cleaned with the chairs set to arrive on October 13th for installation.  Eventually, carpeting will be put down as the final step.  Davis reported that the Sports Boosters donated $10,000 for the school’s matching funds on the maintenance for the concession stand.  The Little Hornet Football Program donated $800 towards the $1,600 needed for sprigs to be put on the football field to get it ready for the year.  They also donated $3,000 to be used in other areas of the football field or concession stand.  The FFA was approved for an overnight trip to Louisville, Kentucky for the National FFA Convention at the end of October.  Athletic Director Wayne Harre was not able to be at the meeting due to 2 school events in town, so they tabled discussion on the Senior Night for Athletics issue, but he is compiling the coaches’ opinions.  The Salary Compensation Report was put together and will be on the school’s website on October 1st, as it is the salary and benefit report of all personnel.  Davis then explained that School Board Elections process is beginning today.  Candidates can come to the school and get a packet of information to begin accumulating petitions.  There are 3 seats up for election this time.  The packets are ready to go, but the school is only handing them out, as nothing gets returned, so everything else goes to the County Clerk’s Office.  The election is on April 7, 2015.  In other news, the Board approved of the school’s application for Recognition of Schools, which is an annual application.  It is a verification to the state that they are abiding by the administrative code in running the school district.  After closed session, the Board approved of Brady Harre as a part-time teacher aide.  Davis says he was hired through a grant as a tutor and has already been working at the school, the Board just needed to give final approval at the meeting.  He will also work with special education.  They also approved of Cheryl Sachtleban to be a cheerleading co-coach for this school year.  She will receive a stipend for working events.  The next meeting is on Monday, October 20th.
