There was an accident on Wednesday afternoon that resulted in the arrest on an individual, as well as 2 people going to hospitals for injuries. According to the Illinois State Police, it occurred on Interstate 64 in the westbound lanes near mile marker 49.5. A car driven by 22-year old Miguel A. Ramirez-Cruz of Carbondale was going west, when he lost control of the car and it went into the eastbound lanes, before going off the road into a culvert. Ramirez-Cruz sustained minor injuries and was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, while a 26-year old female passenger from Benton sustained injuries and was taken to Washington County Hospital. A second passenger, a 22-year old male from Murphysboro did not receive any injuries. Ramirez-Cruz was released from the hospital and then arrested for DUI and Driving While License Suspended. He was also cited for Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, Improper Lane Usage, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
