It’s Election Day. Despite the weather, the polls are open from now until 7 PM. It’s important to get out and vote, even though this is a consolidated election. Washington County Clerk & Recorder Nancy Heseman says that turnout is generally low for this type of election. There’s not a lot of choice on the ballot and that’s generally what makes people come out and vote. It takes something that they are interested in, such as a question on the ballot, or there are a lot of races. But, when there isn’t much competition, then they have a tendency to think they don’t need to. Some of the races where there will be losers, include for the Ashley City Council, the Centralia City Council, the Centralia Mayor, the Nashville City Council, the Hoyleton Village Board, the Hoyleton Grade School Board of Education, the Willow Grove Elementary School Board, the Freeburg High School Board, the Pinckneyville High School Board and the Centralia High School Board. So, there are plenty of races that need your vote. We’ll have election coverage tonight after the polls close at 7 o’clock.
