The Washington County Sheriff’s Department wasn’t as busy this past week as they have been in previous weeks. They assisted 2 motorists and responded to 6 accidents. Last Monday, there was a minor accident as Christopher Wilkerson of Breese was driving in rural Oakdale, when he struck a deer with his vehicle. There were no injuries reported. A week ago, there was an accident on Interstate 64 near mile marker 47 in the eastbound lanes, as a vehicle driven by 42-year old Haiying Wang of Saint Louis, Missouri, went off the left side of the road and struck a tree. Again, no injuries were reported and no citations were issued. There was a 1-vehicle accident on Thursday on County Highway 17, south of Montana Road, as a 17-year old male from Radom, loss control of the vehicle he was driving and struck a ditch. No mention of any injuries or citations. Another accident on Thursday was on the 23,400 block of Route 15 in Ashley, as a vehicle driven by 21-year old Imanie M.L. Harris of Glenwood, Illinois, left the roadway and damaged a culvert and mailbox. Harris was injured was taken to a local hospital. There was no mention of any citations being issued. On Friday, a deputy assisted a motorist on I-64 at mile marker 50 who had a blow out. The deputy assisted the driver until AAA arrived. On Saturday, they responded to a call to Covington Road for a report of an ATV accident, which had rolled over. The driver, Ronald Hill and his passenger, Kristina Hill, were ejected from the ATV. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. On Sunday, deputies responded to an accident on I-64 at mile marker 43, as a vehicle driven by a 17-year old female of Caseyville rear ended a vehicle driven by 38-year old Karen M. Olsen of O’Fallon, as the teenager did not slow down in the construction zone, as Olsen had. There was no mention of any injuries or any citations being issued. Besides the 6 accidents they responded to, they responded to 2 reports of Tax Fraud a week ago, one from a resident in rural Venedy and another from a resident in rural Oakdale. They also returned a call to a resident of rural Marissa about Identity Theft. They initiated a traffic stop and arrested 36-year old Michele D. Baker of Mount Vernon for Operating a Motor Vehicle while Registration is Suspended and Possession of Cannabis Less Than 2.5 Grams. They arrested 44-year old Shawn M. Moore of Hillsdale, Missouri for Driving While License Suspended during a traffic stop. On Thursday, deputies arrested 45-year old Brett A. Stinson of McLeansboro for Driving While License Suspended, Possession of Cannabis and Unlawful Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe and Needle during a traffic stop. They also assisted a New Minden resident with a property exchange, took a request for assistance on a civil property exchange and assisted the Nashville Police Department with a domestic battery investigation. On Friday, they arrested 35-year old James P. Kozuszek of Nashville on a Washington County warrant, while in custody for domestic battery charges. Finally on Saturday, they assisted the NPD with traffic control due to an accident.
