The Irvington Grade School Board of Education met Monday night.  They did not install the winners of the recent election, as Superintendent Dave Schulte says they will tentatively meet on April 28th for the installation and re-organization of the Board.  Gera Sims, Steve Tatjenhorst and Sandra Neabuhr were re-elected, while Denise Thurman will be new to the Board.  Also, there are two spots open that no one ran for, so the Board is looking for any interested residents of the Irvington Grade School District that would like to serve, and they can then be appointed by the Board.  One opening is due to Jayne Neal not seeking re-election.  Schulte says they talked about proposals to update technology, but did not take any action at this time.  He reported that their desk and laptop computers are getting old, as well as the need for upgraded internet are issues they will need to deal with.  He did report that they had very few problems with the PARCC test.  There were only 4 students kicked off, which is good, considering their 3rd through 8th graders took the test online.  Neabuhr will again serve on the Kaskaskia Special Education District Board for Irvington.  They approved of the amended 2014-2015 school calendar, as 2 emergency days were used for snow days.  The last day of school will now be May 26th, which will be a half day.  This half day was originally scheduled for Friday, but that will now be a regular day of school.  Graduation is still set for May 15th.  The Awards presentations will be on May 14th at 6:30 PM for all grades.  He discussed a service project that the 5th and 6th graders are doing now.  They put a plan together to help the Centralia Humane Society, as they are collecting dog food, cleaning supplies and other like items.  But they have also worked out a schedule to get the 5th & 6th graders to help out at the shelter one day a week.  This will be in the afternoon for an hour or so with walking the dogs, cleaning cages and other tasks.  The items are being collected at the school, but anyone can drop something off at Irvington Grade School to help out.
