Washington County Health Department Director Sharon Frederking provided a 6-month report to the Washington County Board at Tuesday night’s meeting. They conducted 48 inspections and 15 re-inspections of 38 places that sell food in the county. There were 5 complaints, resulting in 5 inspections. There were 15 private sewage permits issued and they made 11 inspections or consultations. There were 8 complaints, which resulted in 8 inspections. The WCHD also received 18 nuisance complaints, which resulted in 18 inspections. They will begin mosquito testing after next week, looking for traps of mosquitoes with the West Nile Virus. They have a maternal child health program with a case load of 97, including 33 pregnant moms, 51 infants and 13 children. The WIC current case load is 256 clients. They administered 42 tuberculosis skin tests and there were no active or inactive cases. Frederking also reported that there were some communicable diseases tested for and there are 14 cases of Chlamydia, 3 cases of Hepatitis C, 1 Hep B case, 2 Salmonella cases, 1 case of Haemophilus Influenza and 1 case of Shigellosis. There were 175 vaccines provided to children, mostly through the school system, but they also administered 29 adult immunizations. The WCHD performed 472 lab tests with 181 of them performed during the special they have in February. The majority of the tests were for a health profile of the individual. In some cases the results showed improvement from the previous year, but not in all categories. Elevated cholesterol was at 34 percent of those tested, 4 percent less than last year, but elevated glucose was at 26 percent, 1 percent higher than 2014. 30 percent of those getting tested were physically active, down from 33 percent last year, while 40 percent eat 3 to 5 fruits and vegetables daily, down from 49 percent in 2014. They also found that blood pressures had elevated in 38 percent of these people and the adult obesity rate is at 32 percent in Washington County. The Washington County Health Department administered 307 vision screenings, 411 hearing screenings, and made 25 visits to the Washington County Jail to assess 30 inmates.
