The Nashville High School Board of Education met for a long meeting last night and Superintendent Wendy Davis reported that work is progressing on the summer maintenance work, as well as on the removal of asbestos from parts of the school. The Media Center is being carpeted now and Davis talked about the 4 phases of the project. The EPA people have finished in the hallway and classrooms on the north of the school and opened the area back up, so phase 1 is done. Phase 2 is underway, as they cordon off the hallway from the main entrance going east to the math classrooms, so they can begin removing the asbestos. Phase 3 will be in the band and chorus rooms, which have been cleared out and repairs were made. Finally, the special education room above the north gym will be Phase 4. She also talked about a change order, as things are moving well, the asbestos removal people believe they can get even more areas done this summer, instead of waiting to do it next summer. This includes some classrooms by the Auditorium and the hallway by them. There was some scheduled work that doesn’t need to be done, so the school is saving on it, but it will cost an additional $9,505 to complete this new work. The Board approved of this change order.
