The Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees met Monday night for the regular monthly meeting and approved five Program Articulation Agreements with Southern Illinois University Carbondale.  Within these agreements, KC and SIUC have outlined 2 + 2 engineering curriculum guides for the following programs: Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.  The College is excited to add these program articulation agreements with SIUC to the list of the College’s current 2 +2 agreements that include:  Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, Missouri University of Science and Technology, and University of Illinois at Champaign Urbana.  The Associates of Engineering Science degree at KC continues to grow yearly in enrollment and interest.  The Pre-Engineering Program is coordinated by Professor Eric Hofelich.  Students in the Pre-Engineering Program enroll in their key core classes in chemistry, math, physics, and engineering with KC that provides a solid foundation for whatever specialized area they choose to pursue at transfer.  Attending from SIU Carbondale were Matt Baughman, Assistant to Chancellor and John W. Nicklow, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.  Resolutions were passed for authorization to proceed with construction documents and bidding process for the new Nursing Education Center and for approval of design and authorization to proceed with construction documents for the Crisp Technology Center expansion and renovation.   A resolution was also passed to award the bid for the installation of fiber optic cabling for the new Agricultural Education Center so this facility can be online with the other KC buildings on the Main Campus.  In personnel action, the Board accepted the resignation of Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Shane Larson effective in April; Academic and Career Advisor for the Trio Program, Makesa Harris, effective January 3rd and Physical Therapy Instructor Jennie Larson effective in May.  The Board approved a re-classification for Jenna Lammers as the new Assistant Manager of Records and Registration.  They also learned that recently the KC Nursing Department held its semi-annual induction into the Lambda Chapter of the Alpha Delta Nu Nursing Honor Society.  The six inductees include Kendra Bundy, Jordyn Corbin, Jeremy Hollingsead, Alicia Jansen, Angela Kidwell, and Katie Penland.   The Alpha Delta Nu Nursing Honor Society recognizes the academic excellence of students in the study of Associate Degree Nursing.   They also heard the Title III Quarterly Report and learned that science, social science, and English faculty are conducting their final pilots of redesigned courses.  Over the last four years, math and Transitional and Gateway English faculty have worked with the Title III Curriculum Learning Specialist to realign the Transitional Studies Math and English courses with the college-level Gateway Math and English courses.  The final focus of curriculum development culminates with pilots across the curriculum.  In the report, the Board also learned that about the current i-Strategy Software Implementation.  The tools available through i-Strategy will enhance the organization of student data to answer critical questions regarding student enrollment, persistence, and performance.  Also reported was the required Annual Progress Report, which was submitted to the Department of Education on behalf of the Kaskaskia College Title III team in December 2013.  This report covered all the Title III activities that occurred within year 4 of the grant, which ran from October 2012 to September 2013.  The Title III team was able to report that all of the required objectives from the grant for year 4 were either met or exceeded.
