A two-vehicle crash late Sunday at Highway 177 and Fourth Street in New Memphis has claimed the life of a 20-year old rural Okawville man, according to Clinton County Coroner Phil Moss.  Moss says he received a call around 10:30 PM Sunday about the head-on collision and pronounced Richard Kavanaugh dead on the scene at 11:07 PM.  Moss says an official cause of death is pending toxicology tests.  The Clinton County Sheriff’s Department was first notified by Onstar of the crash around 10:20 PM.  Accident reports show Kavanaugh was traveling westbound on Route 177, approximately 200 feet west of Fourth Street, when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck a vehicle driven by 53-year old Susan Baum, also of Okawville.  Baum was transported to Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
