The Washington County Coroner’s office was dispatched to the scene of a farming accident at 8:40 PM on Thursday on Sugar Creek Road in rural Ashley. 59-year old David L. Paszkiewicz of Ashley was pronounced dead at 9:20 PM by Deputy Coroner Dr. Rodney Small at the scene. Paszkiewicz was apparently mowing around a pond, when the tractor he was operating turned over throwing him from the tractor and into the pond. The tractor then landed on the subject pinning him under the water. The accident was found by the landowner who was summoned by the victim’s wife when he did not return from mowing. The Ashley Fire Department, Washington County Ambulance Service, Washington County Sheriff’s Department and the Washington County Coroner’s office all responded to the accident. An autopsy will not be performed. Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger would like to urge all area farmers to use extreme caution when mowing around ponds, lakes or steep inclines. Tragedies like this are all too familiar to Washington County in recent years.
