The Oakdale Grade School Board of Education met Monday night. Superintendent Charles Peterson reported that there are 77 students as of this month, which is the same as last month. The Board approved of the Tax Levy for Fiscal Year 2016 at 4.99 percent over what they asked for in each fund last year, therefore they did not need a truth in taxation hearing. Again, like most schools, they ask for as much as they can in hopes they receive more than the previous year. A Health, Life, Safety inspection was done earlier this year and the report came back, which the Board went over, says Peterson. They received a B status, which means they are making acceptable progress. There are some things they need to do to get up to code and those things will be getting done in the near future. This includes a couple of doors that need to be replaced, some exit – emergency signs need to be installed in some rooms, as well as some wiring issues that need to be taken care of. This includes getting rid of some temporary extension cords and putting wiring in a conduit with a receptacle, so they won’t need the extension cords. They also approved of the 2016 – 2017 Intent to Play Card with the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association for the sports of volleyball, boys and girls track and basketball. While the school has been happy with the auditors, they are looking around at what is available in hopes to save some money with this year’s audit. Today is Santa’s Cottage, where students can buy some Christmas presents and the Christmas Program is tomorrow night at 6:30 PM. Friday is the last day of school for Oakdale Grade School and students are back on January 4, 2016. The next Board meeting is January 11, 2016.
