The Washington County Hospital Board of Directors met last night for their monthly meeting. Chief Executive Officer Nancy Newby presented the financial report and almost all the numbers were down for November. There were only 14 admissions and there were 17 budgeted, and there were 17 in October, while just 1 less than last November. Patient days were at 935 and there were 998 budgeted for. It is only 2 more than in October, but 92 less than one year ago. Outpatient visits for November were down from the 3,000 that were anticipated at 2,568, which was less than the 2,896 in the previous month, but only 61 fewer than a year ago. Emergency room visits was way down in November from October, going from 227 down to 184, and it was much less than the 233 anticipated, while it was 23 less than in November 2014. There were 39 surgeries in November, lower than the 48 surgeries anticipated, but it was significantly higher than the 23 surgeries in October, and 5 more than from last year. For the year, everything is less than budgeted for except for admissions and emergency room visits. The hospital had a profit in September for the 1st time this fiscal year and had a profit for the just second time this year in November. The profit of $40,491 was much higher than the loss of $142,716 in October, and they had planned for a profit of just $2,410. For the year, the hospital has a loss of $570,927. Newby reported that the profit comes, despite the lower number of admissions and visits to the hospital, but they saved some money in other places to help. The Board approved of this report. Newby also reported that there are nursing openings at Washington County Hospital, but the signing bonuses at the hospitals in Belleville gearing up for their new hospitals has drawn applicants to that area instead of Washington County.
