Organized labor in Illinois is unified against Governor Bruce Rauner’s decision to seek regulators’ review of contract negotiations with state employees. Republicans back the GOP governor. Rauner asked the state Labor Relations Board on Friday to rule whether the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees state council is negotiating fairly or that year-old talks are at an impasse. Impasse would loosen rules on tactics each side may use. SEIU Healthcare Illinois urges Rauner to “abandon his political vendetta.” Illinois AFL-CIO President Michael Carrigan labeled Rauner’s approach one of “conflict and division.” But House GOP Leader Jim Durkin says AFSCME is unwilling to make concessions despite a woeful budget picture. Christine Radogno is Senate Republican leader. She says Rauner has successfully concluded deals with 17 other state-worker unions.
